Who is the center of the youthful Pistons rebuild? Jaden Ivey? Cade Cunningham? Sharpshooter Saddiq Bey? The correct answer is “technically” Isaiah Stewart. While he may not be the focal point of the offense, he does play the center position and enters tonight’s matchup against the Washington Wizards with a great opportunity to build on his hot start. Through the first three games, Stewart has averaged 11 points and 10.7 rebounds, a tick up from his 8.3 and 8.7 from last year. He has eclipsed the o9.5 rebounds in two of the three games and recorded one double double. One feature of Stewart’s game that he is looking to showcase more is his outside shooting. During the 2021-2022 season, he attempted 46 three pointers over 71 games. He has already taken 14 in the first three games this year. This aspect will only compliment his blue collar approach to the game in the paint, as he is not afraid to mix it up with anyone down low. Just ask LeBron James. Washington’s front court has been dominated by opposing centers early on, allowing 25.74 points and 17.40 rebounds per game to the position. First up was Jalen Smith of the Pacers with 16 and 8. Next, Nikola Vucevic of the Bulls got them for 24 and 8. Most recently, Jarrett Allen of the Cavs recorded a 15 and 14 double double. I look for Stewart to be the next center in line to find success against this Wizards team, with the upside of a mid teens double double.
